Damien Shatford’s ‘Best Day Ever’ for L&P from DDB New Zealand has been selected as Creativity Editor’s Pick.

The Review

A new spot for New Zealand’s Lemon & Paeroa soft drink brand is set in a zombie apocalypse. But it’s devoid of the desperation and horror that typically goes hand-in-hand with the now clichéd scenario.

The TV, cinema and social ad, created by DDB New Zealand and directed by Sweetshop’s Damien Shatford, starts off like your typical zombie film, with the undead roaming aimlessly through abandoned supermarkets and streets. But then, one of them finds a can of Lemon & Paeroa and drains the last dregs.

Suddenly the music changes to Sheryl Crow’s “All I Wanna Do…” and the ghouls start having a great time together, playing golf and rugby (well, sort of), joyriding, hanging out by the beach and pool and even high-fiving after scaring off a couple of living humans. The tagline is “Refreshingly Different.”

It’s been a while since we’ve seen zombies in an ad (they came fast and furiously a few years back), but these guys are a worthy addition to the stable.
